Yanukovych intimidates his opponents in Donbas, like in 1937

Prosecutors in Donbas are exerting unprecedented pressure on members of the Tymoshenko team. This is a large-scale intimidation campaign, reminiscent of secret police NKVD atrocities in 1937, said head of Tymoshenko campaign staff in Donbas Natalia Korolevska in her website release on Feb. 5.

“Prosecutors have launched a massive harassment campaign against managers and trade union leaders at those enterprises that support Yulia Tymoshenko, specifically, at the state-run Pervomajskvuhillia, Lysychanskvuhillia, Rovenkyantratsyt, Sverdlovatrtatsyt, Luhansvuhillia. Prosecutors began unscheduled checks and opened several criminal investigations,” Korolevska said.
In a related move, prosecutors summoned Yulia TYmoshenko proxies in polling stations No. 42, 44 and 45, demanding to recall Tymoshenko representatives on electoral commissions, Korolevska stressed.
“Intimidation campaign against Tymoshenko campaign staffers aimed to minimize support for her in the region is picking up steam, Korolevska said. There was no such intimidation even in 2004 when Yanukovych was running for president.
Meanwhile, representatives of Rovenkyantratsyt and Sverdlovantratsyt supported by a number of NGOs have protested intimidation to the prosecutor’s office, threatening mass rallies outside the Luhansk prosecutor’s office on Feb. 6.
