Ukraine needs tax amnesty after election, says presidential candidate Serhy Tihipko

In the wake of a tax amnesty in Italy, Italians declared 95 billion euros of previously hidden incomes, Tihipko says.In Ukraine, over half of the country’s economy operates in the grey sector. We shouldn’t pretend that our tax system is healthy,” Tihipko stressed.
In his opinion, Ukrainians evade paying taxes only because they are convinced that their money will be embezzled or spent on elections instead of social programs and infrastructure development.
“The tax amnesty, however, should not create loopholes for laundering illegally gained incomes. Cutting down grey economy and helping criminals to legalize their earnings are two different things which most countries do not mix,” Tihipko said.
