The Russians are unwilling to discuss preparations for the withdrawal of their fleet from Sevastopol in 2017. Moreover, Moscow is building up tensions in Sevastopol about the need to withdraw its military, runs an article published in The People’s Army on May 7.In it, Defense Minister Yekhanurov has stressed again that Ukraine’s attitude is clear and firm: under the 1997 agreement, the Black Sea fleet must leave the territory of Ukraine by May 28, 2017.
The Ukrainian minister has voiced his concern over the fact that delimitation and demarcation of the sea border of Ukraine and Russia was stalled
Yury Yekhanurov has also drawn attention to territorial claims toward Ukraine laid by some Romanian politicians.
“Black Sea states have increased their military spending, with emphasis on building up air and naval forces. Meanwhile, cutting Ukraine’s defense ministry budget lowers combat readiness of the Ukrainian army in comparison with our neighbors,” Yekhanurov summed up.
