Ukraine does not protect its interests in Crimea - Mustafa Dzhemiliov

November07200820:18

There are many Russia-bankrolled subversive organizations in Crimea. However, Ukraine officials turn their backs on these organizations. SBU should have reacted among the first to “Sevastopol – Crimea – Russia” NGO’s appeal to court protesting ceding of Crimea to Ukraine in 1954, the leader of Crimean Tatars Mustafa Dzhemiliov told ZIK Nov. 7.

The Crimean Tatars oppose any separatist movements on the peninsula. “We see our future in the union within the Ukrainian state and having the territorial autonomy status,” he noted.

Ukraine does not pursue any coherent policy in Crimea, Dzhemiliov claimed. “One gets surprised by the lack of efforts on the part of Ukrainian authorities to protect the interests of the country. Appointing loyal official to key positions is of utmost importance. Typically, such positions are taken by those who hate independent Ukraine,” the Crimean Tatar leader warned.

He called absurd the allegations that fanning the conflict between Ukraine and Russia over Crimea will play into USA hands. “Why should the United States want it? They want stability so that they can trade with anyone.”

Comment by ZIK

Following the appeal by the Sevastopol-Crimea-Russia NGO to cancel the 1998 Crimean constitution confirming that the peninsula belonged to Ukraine, the Simferopol district court started its hearings.

According to the IA Regnum report, the NGO’s coordinator, Valery Podyachyj, said the defendants include the Crimean parliament and its Speaker Anatoly Hrytsenko, The NGO demands that the 1998 constitution be annulled and a declaration on unification with Russia be approved based on the results of the 1991 Crimean referendum. The court adjourned its hearings till Nov 12.

The Focus on Family group has predicted that Russia will seize Ukraine and the Baltic state in 2009, invading Poland in 2012 – in the aftermath of an international crisis, NEWS.ru ua says, citing Novyj Region.

Director of the International Institute for Political Analysis Yevhen MInchenko said Nov. 3 in Moscow that such forecasts are deliberately planted in the media as the USA have plans to provoke a conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

    • I'm an American that lived in Feodosia for a couple years. Russia spent tons of money causing trouble and buying elecitons in the crimea. I have many friends in Feodosia and Simferopol that consider themselve's Russian. They were born in the Crimea and love it there. In America, we are from all over the world but, we consider our selves American. Keiv even treats the Crimea like a step child. Somehow they need to come togeather as one company. The biggest problem with the Crimea isn't Russia or NATO, it's the three main parties in Kiev that spend all their time fighting each other. My friends need good paying jobs, and a secure future, Not war or worthless speeches. Don't worry about Russia or America, focus on your own problems!

    • Good words ACbKo and Sash. Only a fool would try to advise Ukrainians by calling your country THE Ukraine! Poor John Osborne needs history lessons. American fools like him would leave the Taliban and Saddam in power and Russia to continue crushing its neighbors.

    • Kyivan Rus existed centuries before the Mongol - Muscovy backwater and 17th century Russia appeared. Russians have always tried to appropriate Ukrainian history as well as the Rus name in order to claim a false historical legitimacy.

    • John, John John,
Glad to see you admit Russians are but 'Little Ukrainians' from Kyiev.
Torture, how many Russians, Ukrainians, Poles, Tatars, Belorus has the 'Great Russia' murdered?
What a tortured, sad, miserable life you live--just like Russia.
Just get behing all the other sniffers bent over behind Putin.
The world and Ukraine moves on--keep up the bluster you fool.

    • Crimea is an ancient part of the Russian Empire, just as the Ukraine is and Kiev the soul of ancient Russia - you will be lucky if you even maintain control over your Russified regions in the East, your future lies with Russia and the CIS and CSTO, not NATO and the West - just look how we treat our `so-called partners for peace and stability' once we get done with their usefulness (aka Pakistan) ... just to `torture Iraqis and Afghans' ... they are left by the wayside - just like the Native Americans of these great lands of the stolen US of A ... wake up Rus - you are one people, not 5.
