Flood kills 22 Ukrainians. 40,000 homes flooded

As of 7.00 a.m. July 28, 40,601 homes in oblasts Lviv, Zakarpattyta, Ternopil, Chernivtsi and Ivano-Frankivsk were flooded. Also, 33,882 hectares of arable land, 360 of automobile bridges, 680 km of roads were flooded in Western Ukraine, Ukraine ministry for emergencies July 28 report says.In the Lviv oblast, 7,989 homes and 1,213 thousand hectares of arable land were flooded as well as 21 automobile bridges damaged and 17 towns were cut off electricity.
In the Zakarpattya oblast, 163 homes were flooded and 2,000 hectares of arable land, as well as 3 bridges damaged.
In the Chernivtsi oblast, 8,811 thousand homes and 3,135 hectares of arable land were flooded and 8 bridges damaged, with electricity cuts in 26 towns.
In the Ivano-Frankivsk oblast, the worst hit area in Western Ukraine, 488 towns, 22,930 homes, 28,321 hectares of arable land, 328 bridges were flooded or destroyed, with electricity cuts in 107 towns.
Rescue workers saved 2,758 Ukrainians, evacuated 6,105 persons and temporarily resettled 13,703 Ukrainians.
As a result of bad weather, 22 persons died, of these 6 children.
The authorities are involved in clearing the beds of rivers, strengthening banks, pumping water from flooded homes, restoring electricity supplies, delivering fresh water, medicines and food to the flood-hit areas.
Population from the areas threatened with flooding is also evacuated. In total, the emergencies ministry used 2,550 rescue workers and 564 items of equipment.
