Severe rains and floods hit Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv oblasts. Locals evacuated by troops

Due to severe floods in some areas of oblasts Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk, troops are involved in evacuating the populace in the flood-stricken towns and villages, Western Operational Command representative told ZIK.
In particular, troops helped in evacuating 130 residents and their household things of towns Verbizh and Makiyivka in the Kolomya rayon. In Kalush, Ivano-Frankivsk, the army evacuated another 30 residents.
In these areas, the troops used boats and helicopters to help flooded households.
In Chernivtsi, the huge consumer goods Kalinivka market close to the river Prut was flooded, with all roads leading to it covered by the water. Rescue workers are strengthening the roads and building dams to make it possible for traders to save their goods, ZIK reported July 25.
Unfortunately, the bulk of goods could not be evacuated, although the city authorities alerted the traders at 7 a.m. about the coming flood. The traders said they need a large number of trucks, which they do not have, to save their goods.
Pres Yushchenko says the government must do everything possible to help flood victims. The cabinet and the ministry for emergencies must make every effort to evacuate the populace and save lives, Yushchenko press service says July 25.
Rail communications were disrupted by bad weather, and trains going from Sambir to Syanky, Drohobych and from Kolomya to Chernivtsi are rerouted via Stefaneshty, Lviv railways July 25 press release runs.
Many automobile roads in oblasts Lviv, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk are reported closed due to land slides or flooding.
