Verkhovna Rada and cabinet set to delay their political demise

VR and the cabinet will do everything to delay their political demise. They opt to put off radical decision-taking till the fall. I do not, however, believe that snap elections will be in the fall as, due to the current economic crisis in Ukraine, it would be bad news for everyone, political expert Volodymyr Tsybulko said in his comments on the country’s future to ZIK.The main task of the coalition at the VR session coming next week is to demonstrate its viability so as not to give the president the chance to disband the legislature. “I think, the coalition will try and find new partners, because the opposition is not interested in the new elections. In fact, no one is prepared to take the fall for the consequences of unstable economic situation in Ukraine. Once or twice, VR will probably muster enough votes to approve new laws – to avert accusations of its inaction, the political expert predicted.
He also added that economic threats have forced the parties to tone down their tough verbiage, something that indicates their readiness to play for time at the coming session. “I doubt that snap elections will be held in the fall, as Ukraine faces a crucial task of receiving MAP in December. If political feeling continue to run as high, receiving MAP will be out of the question,” Tsybulko stressed. Another knotty issue for Ukraine is a decision by UEFA in the fall on Ukraine’s preparedness to host Euro-2012, he said.
On the one hand, Yulya Tymoshenko has become hostage to her presidential ambitions, on the other hand, she is faced with oil and gas spikes on world markets. Tymoshenko can well see herself blamed for all the country’s economic flops, although all other players must also take the fall for this, the expert opined.
The ongoing debates about introducing a new constitution is another attempt to buy time to take other important decisions.
