The Interior ministry June 22 dismissed earlier reports by Odesa police that Sean Carr, Premier Yulia Tymoshenko’s son-in-law, physically attacked policemen in Odesa. Now the ministry says the cops harassed Sean Carr. “The earlier report is untrue and is politically biased. According to our investigation of the incident and forensic examination, the local police exceeded their authority and used brutal physical force against Sean Carr and his wife Yevhenia Tymoshenko, causing bodily harm. The unprofessional behavior of the police provoked a conflict and heated reaction by the public,” the interior ministry retraction of Odesa police statement runs.

Late June 21, the police in Odesa detained Premier Yulia Tymoshenko’s son-in-las Sean Carr, for disobedience and resistance, the Odesa police representative told The Ukrayinski Novyny. Sean Carr was detained in one of the parks through which Mr Carr and his wife and accompanied by several bikers wanted to get to the beach.
There was a turnpike at the entrance to the park, and the police allegedly told the group only bicycles are allowed in the park. When the police officers refused to lift the turnpike, Mr Carr attacked them with fists. The police had no option but to detain him in the police precinct. His wife accompanied him there.
According to the newspaper source, high-ranking city and police officials soon appeared in the precinct, and Carr was released.
Yevhenia Tymoshenko married Sean Carr, a British rock musician, in October 2005.
