VR lawmakers refuse to pay taxes

Verkhovna Rada did not support the bill denouncing a treaty between the government of the USSR and the Republic of Cyprus on preventing double taxation of property and incomes. Only 223 lawmakers of the ruling coalition backed the bill.
According to The Ukrayinska Pravda June 4 report, the Party of Regions, Communists and the Lytvyn bloc did not vote.
They explained their lack of support by the fact the government hasn’t offered any similar agreement with the Cyprus.
“If you do not want to pay taxes, let it be so,” Speaker Yatseniuk commented.
He also said it is a shame that the agreement of a non-existent state [USSR] is still being used.
Cyprus is among the three off-shore havens liked by Ukrainian companies. According to The Delo, Ukrainians exported more than $82 million worth of goods to Cyprus in Q1.
