In the list publicized by NUJU there are officials and judges who are muzzling the press in Ukraine, notably, Yury Hrytsa, judge of the Ivano-Frankivsk economic court. He banned the showing of a documentary film exposing corruption of city mayor Anushkevychus, NUJU told ZIK Apr. 23.
The black list also includes Nova Kakhovka city mayor Volodymyr Kovalenko, Slovyansk (Donetsk oblast) city mayor Valentyn Rybachuk, Slovyansk city court judge Tetyana Khaustova, Kherson oblast appellate court head Anatoly Ivanychuk, head of Rozdilna (Odesa oblast) council Ihor Sikachyn, head of Okhtyrsk (Sumy oblast) rayon court Mykola Veres, head of EDAPS consortium Yury Sydorenko, former chief judge of Kirovsky rayon court (Kirovohrad oblast) Volodymyr Yaroshenko, mayor of Slavuta (Khmelnytsky oblast) Vasyl Sydor, head of Petropavlivsk rayon council (Dnipropetrovsk oblast) Viktor Tarelnyk, judge of Mykolaiv Central rayon court Ivan Dyrko, Kyiv mayor Leonid Chernovetsky, Kharkiv oblast council press and information department head Mykhailo Strilyanyj, head of Zhytomyr rayon state administration Valery Kolosivsky.
NUJU president Ihor Lubchenko says the list is not complete. “NUJU wants to attract the attention of Ukraine’s ranking officials, courts and law enforcement agencies to these glaring violations of violations of the constitution, laws, and Ukraine’s international obligations. This list will be handed over to the International Union of Journalists, Council of Europe, and PACE. These organizations and institutions will decide if they will ever invite the black-listed officials to international forums or enter EU as tourists,” Lubchenko stressed.
Comment by ZIK
Showing the film exposing corruption in the Ivano-Frankivsk city council was banned by the court following an appeal by the same city council. The court decided the case without calling witnesses of the defendant.
In 2007, Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky was rated the top enemy of the press.
