Lviv Mayor Sadovyj's bonuses top his official pay 9 times

Under the law, Mayor Sadovyj’s salary amounts to $500 a month. As reported by the Lviv council press service, in 2007 Mayor Sadovyj’s average monthly pay was about $3.2 thousand, thanks to numerous bonuses. For instance, Sadovyj has already received a bonus in 2008 which tops his pay 9 times, head of state service department in the Lviv oblast and chair of the council’s commission on deputies activities and law Ihor Mykytyn.Therefore, Sadovyj’s bonus totaled $4,500. Interestingly, the mayor’s first deputy has received the same bonus. Major Sadovyj sets the size of bonuses for his other deputies and department heads.
Extra payments due state and local government officials include a seniority bonus for a 20-year plus service, a 50% bonus for high labor intensity, a bonus for speaking a foreign language, for classified work – each amounting to 10% of the basic pay, Mykytyn told.

Three of Sadovyj’s deputies have also received over $2,000 a month in 2007, the mayor’s press service says.
However, Sadovyj’s average monthly pay exceeds the minimum wage 31 times. Consequently, he earned about $40,000 in 2007.
